All About Tracy
I have always been an avid reader. I keep books: in my car, on my nightstand, on every table in my house—be it a side table, coffee table, console, etc—lining the floor of my office because I ran out of shelf space, on a shelf in my kitchen, in boxes in storage…You get the picture. When I was younger, I used to sleep with books in my bed. Now I sleep clutching my kindle (literally) in case I wake up and feel the urge to read. Stories have cushioned my life and opened my mind, creating and molding the person I am today.
In an alternate universe, also known as the day job, I work as a mental health therapist for adults struggling with issues ranging from depression and anxiety to substance abuse. I have a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from West Virginia University, and a Master of Social Work from The Catholic University of America. If the stars align, I’ll be awarded a Doctorate of Social Work from The University of Kentucky in 2027. Stay tuned…
I was born and raised in wild and wonderful, mystical and magical West Virginia, and now live in equally captivating Virginia with my family and four pets—Lila—rescue pup extraordinaire and representative of all things perfect in the world; Leonard—frenchie named after Leonard Hofstadter and best snuggler/companion ever; Lucy and Fred—rescue cats, partners in shadowy crime, and representatives of all things sly and sneaky.
Time to Chat
Here are a few random, mildly interesting facts about me:
I love to read. I don’t feel, or act, my age. I don’t suffer fools, hypocrisy is something I can’t abide, and I really do believe life is a journey. It has to be interesting and active. Don’t be a passive participant, whether times are good or bad. Just live.
What do I do when I’m not writing?
Read. Plot. Read. Work. Study. Cook. Fantasize about how much better shape I’d be in if I’d just exercise. Hang out with my husband. Spend time with my kids. Dance to really loud music (usually Taylor Swift) when no one else is around, especially in the car.
Favorite places on earth?
Southern West Virginia, The Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, Pawleys Island, SC, Bermuda, Paris, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, New York City.
Final question. Five things fans may not know about me:
- I marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as a cheerleader when I was in high school.
- Close friends call me ‘Tracy Lea’.
- I became a Swiftie because of Taylor’s lyrics, and a love of her music came later.
- The Big Bang Theory is my all-time favorite show, thus Leonard’s name.
- The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy has been an obsession of mine for ten years. For Mother’s Day my family gave me the Rivendell Lego set. It sits in a place of honor in my office (yes, fully assembled).
- Edgar Allen Poe is my spirit author. Dark, broody, gothic—what more could I ask for? I have visited his home and grave in Baltimore, the location of his death, and his home in Richmond. My office is peppered with any copy of any of his works I find anywhere I go, along with cheeky little Poe dolls and figurines that I hope he forgives me for owning.
